Det första Nobelpriset delades ut den 10 december år
1901, den femte årsdagen efter Alfred Nobels död.
Bland de prominenta pristagarna detta första år fanns
fysikpristagaren Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen och serum terapiens
förgrundsman Emil Adolph von Behring samt Röda korstes
grundare Henri Dunant som delade sitt fredpris med Frederic Passy,
en av grundarna av interparlamentariska unionen. Ett försök
att bilda en internationell fredsorganisation.
Utdelningen av det första nobelpriset skedde i Stockholm
och i Kristiania nuvarande Oslo. Sverige och Norge befann sig
då fortfarande i en disharmonisk union med varandra. I
Kristiania unionens andra huvudstad utdelades fredspriset. Nobelprisen
i Fysiologi, Kemi, Medicin och Litteratur delades ut i Stockholm.
Musikaliska akademiens stora sal i Stockholm var platsen för
den första nobelpris ceremonien. Salen hade dekorerats av
arkitekten Agi Lindegren. Vart pris markerades med en obelisk
i vars spets flammande illuminationer symboliserade geniets lyskraft.
Priset 150 800 sv kronor utdelades av kronprins Gustav Adolf
(Gustav V Adolf)

The first Nobel
Prize ceremony was held on December 10, 1901, the fifth anniversary
of Nobel's death.
Among the prominent prize-winner this first year was the famous
Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen appointed Nobel Prize winner in Physics
and Emil Adolph von Behring appointed Nobel Prize winner because
of his work on serum therapy.
The founder of the red Cross organisation Henri Dunant shared
the Nobel Peace Prize with Frederic Passy one of the founder
of the Interparliamentary Union. An effort to form an international
peace organisation.
The first Nobel Prize ceremony was held in Stockholm, Sweden
and in Kristiania (nowadays Oslo) Norway. Sweden and Norway were
at the time then countries united in an unhappy union.
In Kristiania one of the two capitals of the Norwegian-Swedish
union the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony was held. The three scientific
awards physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine and the literature
award ceremonies were held in Stockholm.
The first Nobel Prize ceremony took place in the grand hall of
the Musical Academy in Stockholm. The hall was decorated by the
Swedish architect Agi Lindegren. Illuminated obelisks symbolised
the enlighentment of the genius. Each Nobel Prize physics, chemistry,
physiology or medicine and literature had its own special obelisk
